Plant operators inspecting process pipework

Quality & Compliance

Verified at every point the cargo changes hands.

In commodity supply, assurance is worth exactly what it can be evidenced with. Nothing we ship is certified on our own word alone — quality is established independently at production, at loading and again at discharge, and the paperwork is built to clear a bank first time.

01

Quality assurance

Three points of verification, not one.

A single certificate issued by the seller proves very little. We build the chain so that any later question can be settled against evidence drawn by somebody with no interest in the answer.

01

At production

Every batch is tested before release against the contract specification — penetration, softening point, viscosity, flash point, solubility, sulphur content and whatever else your standard names. Material that misses is not allocated.

02

At loading

An independent surveyor attends the load port, verifies quantity by shore tank or ullage measurement, and draws and seals samples. The inspection report forms part of the shipping documents, not a separate favour.

03

At discharge

The same parameters are re-tested on arrival. Sealed reference samples from loading are retained, so a discharge dispute is resolved by comparing two independent sets of results rather than by argument.

02

Standards we certify to

Your specification decides the method.

The same product is graded differently in different markets. We issue certification against the standard your contract names — not the one that happens to be convenient for the producing refinery.

Where a specification is written to one system and available production is certified to another, our technical desk cross-references the two and confirms equivalence in writing before the order is accepted. That conversation happens before you commit, not after the cargo sails.

  • Certificate of analysis tied to the production batch, not the shipment average
  • Test methods named explicitly on every certificate
  • Sealed reference samples retained after shipment
  • Equivalence between grading systems confirmed in writing

Documentation

Papers that clear the bank first time.

A discrepant document set delays payment and, on a letter of credit, can cost the transaction. We build the presentation against the credit terms rather than against a standard template.

Commercial set

Commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading or charter party bill, and certificate of origin issued by the competent chamber.

Quality & quantity

Certificate of analysis, certificate of quantity and the independent inspection report, each naming the test methods applied.

Insurance & terms

Marine insurance policy or certificate where the incoterm requires it, and any beneficiary certificates the credit calls for.

We review the draft credit before it is issued and flag terms we cannot comply with — an unrealistic latest shipment date, a document only the buyer's own agent can produce, a required certificate that no authority in the load port issues. It is a short conversation that prevents a long one.

04

Health, safety & environment

The products we move demand respect.

Hot and flammable cargoes

Bitumen loads at 150–165 °C and molten sulphur is carried at 130–150 °C. Handling procedures, heating instructions and discharge sequences are supplied in writing with every shipment that needs them, not left to the receiving crew to work out.

Oxidisers and regulated goods

Ammonium nitrate is supplied only against verified end-user documentation and in line with the registration, record-keeping and security requirements of the destination market. Where an import permit or end-use declaration is required, it is in place before the order is confirmed.

Containment and spill control

Packing is specified for the route as well as the product — new steel only for drummed cargo, lined containers for bulk sulphur, tank integrity and CSC plating verified before an ISO tank is loaded.

Emissions and waste

Sulphur limits are supplied to the emissions permit that actually applies at the destination, and we recommend the packing with the lowest waste footprint the receiving site can handle.

Safety data sheets are issued with every product in the format the destination market requires. For cargoes with specific handling demands — molten sulphur, heated tank containers, cutback bitumen, ammonium nitrate — written procedures are supplied alongside them as a matter of course.

05

Trade compliance

Where we will not go.

A commodity trading business that is careless about counterparties and destinations is a liability to everyone downstream of it. Our position is deliberately conservative.

  • Counterparties screened against applicable sanctions lists before a contract is issued
  • Origin and destination checked against the restrictions that apply to the trade
  • Regulated products supplied only against verified end-user documentation
  • Import licensing and permits confirmed in place before an order is accepted
  • Business declined where the chain of title or the end use cannot be established

We would rather lose a cargo than take one we cannot stand behind. In practice that costs us volume occasionally and has never yet cost us a relationship worth keeping.
